Roof Sagging Problem

Roof sagging is a common problem found in both old and new properties. Roof sagging can be seen when viewing the roof from the exterior and the roof will appear wavy and not straight.

In a correctly supported roof frame the rafters are supported usually mid span by a timber underpurlin beam which is then supported by timber Struts which bear onto either the internal wall of the home or onto a strutting beam. The strutting beam can either be of timber or steel but must be of correct size according to its span length.

Roof sagging in conventional timber stick roofs is usually caused by the incorrect strutting or the absence of struts to the underpurlin support beams of the rafters. The use of incorrectly sized strutting beams can also be a caused of roof sagging.

This problem is not only unsightly it is a structural fault with the roofs framing and the roof structure can fail in these areas causing extensive damage and even injury. The affected areas need to be correctly support immediately to ensure to the roof is both structurally sound and safe.

Roof sagging is simply caused by the Builder of the property not conforming to the correct Building Codes and Standards of Australia when the home was constructed. Sagging in the roof framing of a property can be rectified by a Roof Carpentry tradesman.

The affected areas can be jacked back to their correct position giving the roofs exterior pitch a correct straight line appearance prior to the correct strutting and support being installed.
